Know the design direction first

Nail down the jeweller
Finding the right jeweller is often the hardest part of the bespoke process — and the most important. Understand the timeline
Bespoke jewellery takes time, and it is best approached with patience and a clear understanding of the process. From the initial concept to the final piece, there are typically several stages involved, including consultation, design development, stone selection, production, and finishing. Our bespoke pieces usually take at least four to six weeks, while more complex designs or rarer gemstones may take up to six months.
Learn to read sketches and CAD
Once the design begins to take shape, your jeweller may share sketches or CAD drawings to help you visualize the piece. These are helpful working tools, but they do not always resemble the final jewel straight away. It often takes a little imagination to translate a technical drawing into something real, and some clients find this easier than others.
If you are new to the bespoke process or would feel more comfortable seeing the design in a more tangible form, you may ask about a wax model or a casted sample in silver or gold. Additional time should be allowed for this stage, as it may require in-studio review and further discussion. If changes are requested after the piece has been cast, additional fees may apply. Even so, making adjustments at this stage is generally more efficient and cost-effective than altering the finished piece later.
Refinements and remakes
The most important thing to understand about bespoke jewellery is that it is made especially for you. As a result, bespoke items cannot be returned. A good jeweller will always strive to create a piece they are proud to stand behind, and one that reflects both the brief and the craftsmanship involved.
That said, if the final result does not fully match your vision due to any miscommunication or design difference, please do not worry. In some cases, adjustments can still be made, or the piece may be remade to better align with your expectations. Of course, this may involve additional time, materials, or gold cost, but a reputable jeweller will always do their best to work with you and bring the design as close as possible to your vision.
